Alexander Ridgers is a lighting designer based in Chicago, USA originally hailing from Edinburgh, Scotland.
Alexander trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow on the B.A Technical & Production Arts course specialising in Lighting Design, and is now studying towards his MFA degree in Theatre Design from Northwestern University due for completion in 2016.
Before moving to the USA, Alexander worked with various theatre companies around the UK including Royal Opera House 2, Sell A Door Theatre Company, British Youth Opera, National Youth Theatre, Tramway Theatre, Tron Theatre and many more smaller scale companies working with different genres of performance including Classical Drama, Contemporary Drama, Musicals, Opera, Live Performance, Installation & Site-specific works.
In USA, most recent works include productions as part of the Virginia Wadsworth Wirtz Center of Performing Arts at Northwestern University theatre annual season, as well as working at Wagon Wheel Theatre in Indiana during Summer seasons 2014 and 15.
Alexander is winner of the 2012 Francis Reid Award from the Association of Lighting Designers, and won the Best Student Designer Exhibition Award 2016 at the Michael Merritt Awards in Chicago, IL. Alexander was nominated for the 2017 Outstanding Lighting Design Joseph Jefferson award for his work on 'Winterset' with Griffin Theatre Company.
Alexander is an adjunct lecturer at the University of Illinois at Chicago teaching Lighting Design to undergraduate students in the School of Theatre & Music.
