Alexander Ridgers is a lighting designer based in Chicago, IL hailing from Edinburgh, Scotland.
Alexander trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Glasgow (BA Technical Production Arts) and at Northwestern University (MFA Theater Design).
Alexander has worked with various theatre companies around the UK including Royal Opera House 2, Sell A Door, British Youth Opera, National Youth Theatre, Tramway Theatre, Tron Theatre and many more smaller scale companies working with different genres of performance including classical drama, contemporary drama, musicals, opera, live performance, installation & site-specific works with variation between movement, music, text and architecture.
Most notable credits include: UK tours and resident productions at Greenwich Theatre with Sell A Door Theatre Company (2012-2013); West End premiere of 'Seussical: the musical'; National Youth Theatre of GB's 'Ghost Office' in Glasgow; assisting at the Royal Opera House 2 with Marcus Doshi on 'Most of the Boys - Sasha Siem', as well as David Howe on the British Youth Opera 2012 season at the Peacock Theatre, London.
Alexander received the 2012 Francis Reid Award for Lighting Design from the Association of Lighting Designers UK and more recently the Best Student Designer Exhibit at the Michael Merritt Awards in Chicago.
Alexander teaches as part of the Adjunct Faculty at University of Illinois at Chicago.
